Common Pest Control Issues

When bugs and other pests start popping up inside your property, it’s a clear warning sign that there’s been a breach somewhere on the outside of your property leading in and it needs to be addressed quickly before it gets worse! Here’s a list we’ve compiled of common pest control issues any property owner may run into, all of which are important to take care of as soon as possible or be wary of at the least.

1. Vegetation In Contact With Your Property

Fix Difficulty: Easy-Medium         Rarity: Common

All kinds of vegetation from small weed-like plants, medium sized shrubbery or tall trees that are in contact with your property can act as an access point to the inside, siding or roof of your property. Roots will invade the outer walls of your property, creating an access point for not only bug-like pests, but also moisture, similarly to the roots of shrubs growing along the property. Trees will also bridge the gap above, giving pests access to the roof of your property where they can then access ventilation and any other small ports that if not properly sealed, will eventually allow shelter and easy access for pests to come and go as they please.

Our recommendation to fix an issue like this would be to transplant or remove all small to medium sized plant-life within 5 – 10 feet of the property as well as trim any tree limbs within 10 feet of the property to reduce the chance of any larger pests from leaping onto your properties roof.

If you know you have a pest problem related to this issue or are unsure, we offer free pest inspection service where you don’t pay a dime for the inspection whether we find a pest or not, only if you choose to use our services for pest removal and/or pest prevention.

2. Gaps in The Property

Fix Difficulty: Easy            Rarity: Common

Similarly to how roots can cause openings in the property allowing bugs, moisture and other pests to get inside your property, there are of course, other naturally occurring gaps that will more likely than not, appear in your property lining. The reasons for these gaps could range from a wide variety of things from poor construction, soil shifting, moisture damage, earthquake damage, property age, etc. many of which are unavoidable unfortunately. However, that does not mean they aren’t fixable!

Our recommendation to fix an issue such as this would be to regularly check your property exterior and interior for any signs of abnormal appearance. It can be hard to spot these things as they tend to be small or gradual changes, but you’d be surprised what you may find just by keeping your eyes peeled. Depending on the severity of any issue you find, consider applying a DIY fix or take the professional route, which we always recommend, and call out an expert to fix the problem.

Additionally, should we be servicing your property for pests, we can also apply an added extra layer of pest protection at the problem locations to further prevent any future issues. Note that during our free pest inspections, looking for problem areas is what we do to better protect your property from pests, so give us a call if you’re unsure about your properties potential existing gaps and we’ll send out a pest technician to take a look for free!

4. HOles, Bites, Chew Marks And Poop

Fix Difficulty: Easy            Rarity: Common

An often-overlooked bit of having pests is what they usually leave behind after they’ve been through an area which is their droppings, but also very tiny to medium sized holes in the materials they traveled across. A longer look may just alert you to the presence of all kinds of pests that you never knew you had.

We aim to prevent common pest control issues like these because they can actually add up quite quickly, often resulting unforeseen side affects such as allergy problems due to pests frequently making their way into air ducts.

5. Damage to Plant Life

Fix Difficulty: Medium    Rarity: Common

One of the major reasons a pest is attracted to an area is because of the plant life that lives there. This inevitably leads to these pests encroaching onto your property and the nearby plant life there as well, then onward to invading the interior of your property.

We recommend planting anti-pest plants such as basil, rosemary, lavender, catnip, mint, lemon grass and petunias around your property. These plants will deter many different bugs and other pest from sticking around, though it won’t stop them entirely without the support of a proper pest prevention plan for your home or business.
