VOLE PEST CONTROL

vole pest control

In total, there are about 155 different known species of vole. You may know them more commonly as meadow mice or field mice. The voles species is part of a subfamily that also includes Arvicolinae, Lemmings and Muskrats. In almost every case, they’re very sneaky and usual require vole pest control services from professional service to remove all traces of them.

VOLE APPEARANCE

Voles are small rodents closely resembling a mouse but exhibit a stouter body, a shorter, hairier tail and have a slightly rounder head, smaller ear and eyes. Voles also have specially developed higher crowned molars with angular cusps. Voles usually grow up to between 3–9 in (7.6–23 cm), depending on which species of vole it is throughout their lifetime.

Voles are commonly mistaken for other small rodent animals. Many people generally mistake the vole for moles, gophers, mice, rats and even shrews because they all have similar characteristics and rodent behaviors.

VOLE HABITS

Voles will commonly use burrows with many exit holes making them easily mistaken for gophers or some kind of ground squirrel. Voles will girdle small trees and ground cover similarly to porcupine which can easily kill plants and is unhealthy for the trees and shrubs.

The vole is also excellent and tunneling and burrowing, making the vole very hard to detect, however when regulated, their tunneling does bring the additional benefit of nutrients dispersion and irrigation.

VOLE REPRODUCTION HABITS

Your typical female vole has between 5 to 10 litters per year however their reproduction cycle is quite short – between 16-24 days to be exact. Just 13 days after birth, female voles are capable of becoming pregnant though the reproduction cycle is highly dependent on environmental resources in determining how often voles mate.

VOLE DIET HABITS

The voles diet is incredibly versatile ranging from small plants and weeds to dead animals through they’d prefer almost any nut or fruit instead. Voles often eat succulent root systems and will often burrow under plants or ground cover and eat away until the plant is dead , targeting plant bulbs in the ground specifically.
